If you’ve always tried to grow flowers in your own home, you probably know that there are so many varieties of flowers you can choose from. As such, it’s fair to assume that the many options available will make it hard for you to pick the right blooms for your garden. In addition to immediately elevating any space inside a home, indoor plants have health and wellness benefits when properly cared for and clustered together in a house. Yet it’s not just plants with indoor foliage that are having a spell. Flowering indoor plants online are gaining popularity, but they need more effort, a little more precise care, and careful positioning indoors to thrive.
Here are a few of our favorite blooming houseplants to brighten your home all season long.
Peace lily
Generally, these plants are found in luxury apartments, with their flowers nodding over the surrounding glossy leaves. This is a low-maintenance plant that needs water once a week. Bear in mind that over watering will ruin your lily much more easily than under watering. It is also very effective in removing harmful toxins from the air, such as formaldehyde and benzene. The elegant white blooms add merely to its appeal, making it an ideal home or office vine.
Chrysanthemum
Another common houseplant is the Chrysanthemum, which is also known as the daisy or hardy garden mum. It will require more regular watering than the peace lily and should be held near windows for sunshine. Not only do these frilly flowers brighten up your room, but they also clean up the air of several toxic chemicals like trichloroethylene, ammonia, xylene and others. But if they are ingested, they can be harmful to animals as well.
Kalanchoe
Kalanchoe, as with all succulents, doesn’t like wet soil. nThe plant should be kept moist through spring and autumn but reduced to light, occasionally watering applications in winter. Kalanchoe is native to the tropics and while it is a beautiful, blooming plant, it is hard to get it to flourish outside its native range.
Amaryllis
Amaryllis is one of the most sumptuous of all bulbs. Technically a hybrid of the Hippeastrum, the amaryllis bears huge, intensely colored flowers on high stalks. These are sold as potted flowering plants or naked bulbs and can be found in red, pink, orange and multicolored. Typically they bloom from late December to early summer, depending on when the bulb is planted. The bulbs can be removed from the soil at the end of its growth period and placed in a cool, dry position for at least six weeks, then replanted and brought back to bloom.
Red anthurium
The Ted Anthurium is also known as the flamingo lily and is another famous flowering houseplant. It requires a lot of indirect light and you must always keep the soil moist. When properly cared for, bright red blooms will recompense you all year round. It is incredibly durable and yet another plant that keeps your air clean and healthy by removing ammonia, toluene, formaldehyde and other toxins from the air.
Aeschynanthus Radicans
Commonly called as the Lipstick plant — it is a trailing vine that produces an abundance of tubular flowers that really look like a lipstick tube. This is a tropical epiphyte, meaning that it typically grows on some other plant instead of in soil. Being tropical, the plant with lipsticks thrives in bright light and humidity. It may take a break from blooming during the dark winter months, but with some warmth and sunshine, it will perk up again.
African Violets
African violets possess a huge following, and it is no wonder why. These plants are lightweight and free flowering with a huge assortment of floral shapes and colors. With diligent watering, high humidity and bright but not overt light, several blooms can be coaxed out each year. Many master growers are able to keep their African violets in bloom for almost the entire year.
Begonias
If you’re used to planting outdoor begonias, then you know that many types make wonderful houseplants, flowering in good conditions almost continuously. It’ll need a bright location to bloom well, but don’t place it too close to a window, or the draft might damage it. Some of the varieties, fancier-leaved Rex begonia, don’t even need to be in bloom to be colorful. Check for the fibrous-rooted forms such as wax-leafed, angel-wing, and hairy-leafed varieties aside from Rex begonias.
The above list of common flowering plants will guide you in your decision about the flowers you imagine your garden should have and order plants online accordingly. Happy Gardening!
