‘It Is Our Duty,’ Says Chehalis Company about Donating a Roof to Habitat for Humanity Project
Tyler Collins, a business owner, stated that he wished to repay the community for its support.

On a Thursday morning, Safecover Roofing LLC, contributed 2,600 sq ft of roofing and approximately 40 hours of labor to assist the Greater Lewis County Habitat for Humanity in continuing a house construction on 11th Street.
The coronavirus epidemic has caused delays in the project. The donation from Safecover is one of many thoughtful community initiatives that are bringing the project closer to completion.
However, the epidemic — as well as the community in general — has been good to Safecover Roofing during the last 3 years, 6 months, according to Tyler Collins, the owner. Despite the shutdowns, his firm remained active with work from the community.
He got the notion to volunteer with Greater Lewis County Habitat for Humanity approximately three months ago, he added. He was discussing with Amy Graber, his aunt, a worker for the Port of Centralia, regarding how he might payback to the local community that had been so helpful to him.
“We were talking about ideas to give something back,” Collins explained, and they “sort of put all of this together.”
“We feel this is our duty, as we have fared so well, to give something back — and we’re pleased to do something like that,” he continued.
Collins with Filo Bastian, the foreman, gathered their team on a gloomy but warm morning on Thursday and began roofing work on the 3 Bedroom, 2-bath house, while the din of nail guns & construction punctuated the tranquil South of Downtown neighborhood.
That afternoon, the roofing finally finished.
“Now because we already have the roof done, we will be able to start working rain or shine, and we will be able to ramp up our speed,” explained Jay Myhre, board president of Greater Lewis County Habitat for Humanity.
Myhre stated that they hope to get the house, which they began construction in early 2019, completed by year-end. Early in the epidemic, state health restrictions stymied the work.

Myhre, on the other hand, considers Habitat for Humanity fortunate because it is using components from a stockpile held by the local nonprofit.
Greater Lewis County Habitat for Humanity could construct roughly two houses in a typical year. However, there are several difficulties associated with the technique.
“Finding a site to construct a home is among our major challenges,” Myhre remarked.
Another issue is the cost of building houses. Myhre estimates that the cost has risen by roughly 40% in the past 2 years, despite the fact that their volunteers, labor, & material donations normally cover the bulk of the expenses.
According to the vice president of the board, Richard Tausch, the companies which contributed materials or large donations are Foresight Surveying, Palmer Lumber, Ace Hardware, Grocery Outlet, Lowes, Breen Crushing, Weyerhaeuser Wood Products, Pacific Mobile Leasing, TRUSS Co., Cal Portland Cement, Interior Design Center, Sierra Pacific, and Lincoln Creek Lumber.
