Cemeteries, like any other establishments, require cash for maintenance and organization. For the Gerry Cemetery, donations in the past from well-meaning individuals have helped the cemetery in ways unimaginable. As association president Jerry House puts it, the need for donations in these trying times goes a long way in putting so much right.

House mentioned that expenses are currently rising, and very few people know that a cemetery cannot survive without adequate finances. State law only requires that the town in which the cemetery is located is to provide minimal maintenance.
Thanks to well-meaning donors, the Gerry cemetery, which is going to its 200th year in existence, has been kept in excellent condition. Thanks to such donations, the association has carried out several maintenance and improvements on the road, building, and land acquisition.
As of the time of filing this report, the cemetery currently houses around 2000 graves, with roughly 300 sites available. The soon to be acquired land will help accommodate an additional 1500 graves, a number which will be sufficient for the next 100 years.

Among those in the Gerry, cemetery is veterans from the War of 1812 and the Civil War. Other occupants include former residents who chose the site as their final resting ace.
House mentioned that expenses for maintaining the cemetery include labor costs for groundskeeping, trimming, and mowing. It also includes the cost of fuel, insurance, road maintenance, and so on. The current officers in the association are there on a volunteer basis, with the caretaker being the only one receiving any form of compensation.
The association is made up of House as President, Recia Myers as Secretary, Nancy Salemme as vice president, and Douglas Bedient as treasurer. Dennis Bartholomew, Paul Cooley, and Ralph Johnsen are all trustees.
All donations can be sent as a check to the Gerry Cemetery Association. The check should be made to PO Box 46, Gerry, NY 14740.
